How it works

Register to use Helpful Neighbour. Provide your details so everything is clear, safe, and accountable for everyone involved.
Book a job. Choose a time, describe the help you need, and book your Helpful Neighbour. An up-front deposit of one hour of work is paid at the time of job booking, using secure online payment.
Get the job done. Your Helpful Neighbour arrives and completes the task, with support available if needed.
Pay the balance securely online. Time is tracked to the minute, so you only pay for the time you actually use - no rounding up. The remaining balance is paid online, so everything is fair, transparent, and easy.

Get set up. We will guide you through a simple onboarding process so you’re ready to start working with clarity and confidence.
Let people know you’re available. Tell people in your local area about the types of jobs you offer, and direct them to this website (helpfulneighbour.com.au) so they can book you easily. We can also provide simple flyers you can print and share if helpful.
Receive bookings. Clients book you for jobs that match your skills and availability.
Do the job. Arrive at the agreed time and complete the work, with clear expectations and support available if needed.
Get paid simply and fairly. Time is tracked to the minute, and payment is deposited into your bank account, so you can focus on the work itself.

Amanda Sainsbury
Founder
I founded Helpful Neighbour to solve a problem I could see clearly in everyday life.
On one side, there are many people who need help around the home — busy households, older people, and those living with disability, including members of my own family. Yet finding reliable help can be surprisingly difficult, often involving long wait times, unclear pricing, or systems that feel impersonal and hard to navigate.
On the other side, there are capable, willing people who want to work, but who don’t fit neatly into traditional employment or large online platforms. They need fair pay, and may also need flexibility or practical support in organising their work - people like my son.
Helpful Neighbour was created to bring these two groups together in a way that is simple, fair, and human.
My background as a research scientist, with experience in academic institutions in Australia and Switzerland, has shaped how this system is designed - thoughtful, structured, and focused on solving real-world problems in a practical way.
Turan Salis

Turan is a capable, hardworking, and thoughtful contributor who takes pride in doing a job properly. He enjoys the sense of contribution that comes from getting up, going out, and doing good work.
He began working in his local community at a young age, starting a dog walking business at 13. From there, he went on to work in shearing sheds, restaurants, and roof plumbing - gaining a wide range of practical experience. He is known for his attention to detail and willingness to do the jobs others overlook, taking pride in leaving things cleaner, safer, and better than he found them.
Turan brings an original way of thinking to his work, along with a warm and genuine care for people. He is particularly mindful of ensuring that those who need help - including older members of the community like his grandmother - are treated fairly and with respect.
Like many capable people, Turan works best in environments that offer flexibility, clarity, and independence. Helpful Neighbour was designed in part to support this way of working - allowing him, and others like him, to focus on doing good work, without the barriers of rigid workplaces or complex administration.
